Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church

Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Saint Therese Little Flower Catholic Church, widely known as Little Flower Parish, has been a spiritual home for Oklahoma City’s Hispanic community from its historic sanctuary at 1125 South Walker Avenue since the 1920s. Founded by Discalced Carmelite priests who fled persecution in Mexico and were authorized by Bishop Theophile Meerschaert to serve Mexican Catholics south of the North Canadian River, it became the city’s seventh Catholic parish and was later designated a shrine to St. Thérèse of Lisieux, the “Little Flower.” The parish remains a bilingual center of worship, offering weekend Masses in both Spanish and English, weekday liturgies, confession, and Eucharistic adoration that draw families from across south Oklahoma City. For a century it has combined Carmelite spirituality with everyday parish life—baptisms, catechesis, and community gathering—while standing as one of the oldest and most recognizable Catholic institutions serving the city’s Latino population.
